glad-blurred-imageHow Cleaning My Fridge Led to Rediscovering The Hope of My Future

A couple of days ago I opened my fridge and was greeted by a very unpleasant odor! I began taking things out, one at a time, looking for obviously bad stuff. I came across a few containers that I thought had been tightly sealed, but found that air had gotten in and spoiled the contents inside. PEE-YEW! I didn’t have to think twice about getting that bad stuff outta there!!

I must admit, this unpleasant chore of getting rid of “bad stuff” certainly hadn’t put me in a particularly spiritual mood, but, as I continued doing a thorough cleaning, I happened to look up and, there on my fridge, I saw a card that Mesu had sent out during one of her book campaigns. I stopped to read it again:

“Don’t let lies from your past tarnish the hope of your future.”

As I returned to my cleaning, I began thinking about the deeper meaning of those words and, soon thereafter, I sensed Jesus begin speaking to my spirit. His message to me went something like this:

Becky, too often in your spirit you hang onto lies from the past that you need to let go of. Just like those items that went bad in your fridge, you think you have the past lies in your life tightly sealed and put away where they will sit quietly and not cause any harm. But those seals don’t always hold and then a bit of “bad stuff” starts to seep out into your spiritual life. Like those spoiled items in your fridge leaked without you realizing it, the “bad stuff” in your spirit starts to affect your relationship with Me. You start listening to bits and pieces of those lies from your past and eventually the lies become so overpowering they keep you from hearing My Voice.

Think again for a minute about the “bad stuff” in your fridge. You didn’t have any problem letting go of that, did you? So, why do you continue hanging onto lies from your past? Let them go and let Me replace them with My Truth! My Truth is this: I. LOVE. YOU! And NOTHING you have done ~ no matter how bad or unpleasant, or even nasty, it may have been ~ can ever separate you from My love! My Love for you is unconditional, which means you have NO need to hold onto lies from your past. Your future is with Me and it is filled with hope, to infinity and beyond!

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

So, today I opened my heart, my mind, my spirit and asked Jesus to do a thorough cleaning and get that “bad stuff” outta there! Those lies from the past have no further power to tarnish the hope of my future! AND, with that done, my spirit now smells as fresh and clean as my fridge.

  1. Thanks for sharing Becky. Your devotional spoke to my heart this morning. We all need a deep cleaning every now and then so that our spirits are a sweet fragrance to the Lord and those around us.

    1. Beth, thanks so much for taking time to read the devotional God put on my heart, and for letting me know it touched your heart as well! The process of deep spiritual cleaning isn’t always pleasant by any means, but I totally agree with you that the sweet, fresh air that follows sure makes us a lot more pleasing to the Lord and to those around us! Take care, my friend!

    1. Thank you, Raechel!! I sure do appreciate you taking time to read the words God put on my heart to share. (PS… I love the unusual spelling of your name!)

    1. Thank you, Kate, for taking time to read this little devo. I’m really glad there was something in it for you. When I finished writing it, I thought, “Wow! I’m not sure people want to read something quite so nitty-gritty…” But I think writing the words down and pressing “send” was another piece of the “letting go” process that took place that day! I pray that you, too, are feeling the freedom that comes with handing off those lies from the past to Our Father who loves us more than we can begin to imagine!!

    1. Hey, Marsha. I sure do appreciate you taking time to read the words God asked me to share here. I’m so glad there was a little something in it that spoke to you as well. I absolutely love it when Our Father uses simple little tasks ~ like cleaning a fridge ~ to remind me that He loves me to infinity and beyond!! How cool is that?!? 🙂
