We are surrounded by bad news, hurricanes, wild fires, murders, opioid abuse, and nuclear missiles being tested. It seems at every turn we are hit in the face with tragedy.
Recently my 90-year-old mom fell and broke her arm (her humerus bone which isn’t funny). I live a twenty-hour drive away. My heart was breaking because I wanted to be with her. Flying with my little dog was not an option. Instead, my husband took off work and drove me to Arkansas and then flew back home to Pennsylvania. We both have serious and chronic health issues which made the drive a little harder than in our younger days. However, I always have hope because God is in control and better and brighter days are coming.
Isaiah prophesized…
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:8
That prophecy was fulfilled at the time of the birth of Jesus. Isaiah 11:6-9 tells us about the Messiah’s reign in the future millennial kingdom. That will be a time of peace where “the wolf shall dwell with the lamb” and “the nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra,” a time of calmness and harmony.
Even though we have stressful times now, when Jesus establishes a new heaven and new earth for us to live in, there will be no more stress. We will have joyful times to worship at the feet of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
For now, I rely heavily on Paul’s promise
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13
I also pray knowing and believing that God loves and cares for my Mom more than I do. She always says if God chooses for her to stay here on earth that she is with family and friends. If He calls her home to heaven she will be with Jesus! A win-win situation! Oh, to live with that attitude and learn to celebrate each day as a gift!
