BFF Frequently Asked Questions–Answered

Mesu AndrewsBFFs

As Mesu’s long time BFF Team leader and friend, Wendy Park has received many questions through the years about this unique ministry and has compiled a list of FAQs with answers. Take a look, and if you have questions, you can reach out to Wendy at: wlpark7856@gmail.com

1. What are the benefits of a year-round group versus just a launch team?

Serving on launch teams are great! They are a huge help to the author. However, there can be a disconnect between the individual members of the launch team. We all come with unique life experiences to why we choose to read and support various authors. In a year-round group, we can talk about those things. We can share questions about the books in a safe environment. A recent BFF question discussed relating to Brave was the difference between Saul’s wife Ahinoam and David’s wife Ahinoam. Yes indeed, they both had wives with the name, although not the same person. Members of the group and Mesu provided thoughts on that issue. Questions like that deepen our understanding of Scripture through the lens of Biblical fiction. We also can form a more personal connection with the author. We are more than just a launch team!

2. Will we still promote Mesu’s books?

Yes. We promote all of Mesu’s books from Love Amid the Ashes to her Deep-O-Tionals to the indie-published short stories to Brave and Noble, coming next year. We encourage our BFFs to share graphics to expose other readers to past works they might have missed.

3. What if I have suggestions for BFF Team activities?

You are a team leader’s dream! Bring them to our planning meeting! One of our favorite past activities has been an ornament exchange in December. We have also done a book exchange in similar fashion. We welcome suggestions in our little community.

4. Can I suggest books other than Mesu’s for the group to read?

Yes! We welcome suggestions in our Biblical fiction group. We are all big supporters of the Biblical fiction genre and want to see it grow.

What Do I Gain By Being a BFF Member?

  1. A monthly newsletter from Wendy – often polling members on their expert reader opinions, your availability for Zoom chats with me, etc.
  2. Admission to our private Facebook page where we share graphics exclusively available to the team as well as more personal news from me.
  3. Monthly Zoom call with Mesu and Wendy: you can ask questions about my current WIP, backlist books, what I had for dinner, etc. 😆
  4. The interchange and friendship of like-minded readers of Biblical fiction who love God’s Word and this genre of fiction. Some have made lifetime friendships in this group!
  5. Exclusive giveaways and optional gift exchanges with your fellow members to build camaraderie and community.

What Is Required of a BFF Member?

  1. Read your monthly newsletter and participate in the polls.
  2. Respond to Wendy’s invitation to the monthly Zoom calls–accept, decline, or maybe–so we can estimate attendance.
  3. Read Biblical fiction! And be willing to share with your teammates when you’ve found a great story/author and why you loved it so much.
  4. Share graphics on your social platforms at least once a month when Wendy or Amanda (Mesu’s VA) shares them in our newsletter or private FB page.
  5. Go to Wendy with any concerns about the team, a specific member, or Mesu’s writing. Wendy is a safe person and trustworthy with your heart.

Ready To Apply?

Before you apply, let me be transparent. I hate to admit it, but BFFs need to be actively engaged on social media and be fairly comfortable with all things computer/tech. However, word-of-mouth is also a powerful marketing device!

If you have found a unique and effective way to share the books you love, and can provide solid numbers to verify it, please tell us about it on the application! Also, if you’ve ever contacted me and asked to be an early reviewer for my new release (i.e. you’d like to earn a free book), becoming a BFF would be a good step toward that. Though BFFs are no longer guaranteed a free book at release, they are given some preference when my publisher forms its launch team.
