As I mentioned on my “Book Reviews” page, I so enjoy introducing folks to new-to-you authors who have touched my heart in special ways. When I became GramMesu in 2011 (now called Grammy by eight amazing grandkids), I began a quest to find truly remarkable kids’ books. There are many great ones out there, but the nuggets I’ve included on my webpage hold a particular and precious place in my heart—for one reason or another. Perhaps one of them will speak to your heart as well . . .
You Made Me Grand
Author Meg Wilson and illustrator Marieke van der Vlies have captured the beauty and emotion around becoming a grandparent.
“Through whimsical artwork and heart-grabbing prose, You Made Me Grand conveys the indescribable connection between grandparent and grandchild. It’s at the top of my gift list for every grandparent I know.” — Mesu Andrews, Christy-Award winning, best-selling author of Isaiah’s Daughter
Jacob’s Garden
Author Sherri McCready and Illustrator Annie McCready
Jacob’s Garden is beloved by all for its beauty and for Jacob’s devotion to each of his precious flowers’ care, so when Leroy the flower shop owner demands that one flower is more beautiful than the others, Jacob must find a way to restore his flowers’ faith in him and themselves. Written by a mother for her daughters to embolden them in their journey of understanding beauty’s origin, purpose, and power. The oral version of Jacob’s Garden lived in the hearts of her daughters until one of them grew up and created the hand-cut illustrations.
