As I scrolled through the NetFlix queue, I noticed an old show I enjoyed when I was younger, MacGyver. (Like him, I can fix almost anything with duct tape and glue gun.) Each episode had the handsome hero build amazing contraptions with found objects. And each show was filled with suspense as he beat the clock to manufacture the means for his and the beautiful woman’s escape.
In this episode, there was a literal ticking clock counting down to the launch time of a missile aimed at the very spot where MacGyver and the beautiful assistant were struggling to rescue the two brilliant scientists and stem the flood of the acid silo from reaching the water supply of Los Angeles. The two of them did it all with chocolate bars, cigarettes (he coughed as he lit them) and a cold capsule. A true MacGyver moment.
Since most of you have read In the Shadow of Jezebel, I don’t think it would be spoiling too much to say that it ends well. But Jehosheba and Jehoiada didn’t use duct tape to fashion an escape. Instead it was the Lord who used those who listened to his call to do His Will.
Isn’t it amazing that the Lord and Creator of all – the One who did all the miracles in the Bible – still bends down to speak to us today? Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
Just as the beautiful woman had to listen to MacGyver, and just as Jehoiada had to trust the Lord’s leading when he was instructed to marry an idolatress, we have to trust the One Who Saved Us with our daily and eternal lives. He will rescue us. He will keep us from danger.
He rescued me from my strong enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. Psalm 18:17

Great post Angie. I loved MacGyver too. I have felt God’s presence in my life in many ways and I think you put it very well.
I’m so glad to hear that you’ve felt God’s presence in your life. Can you imagine what it’s going to be like in Heaven when we realize how many times He touched and orchestrated our lives and we were clueless? I think that’s when we’ll start to understand just how much He loves us, don’t you?
Thanks for taking the time to comment today, Connie. I know today is a rough day for you.
