Book Description
Purple. The foundation of an influential trade in a Roman world dominated by men. One woman rises up to take the reins of success in an incredible journey of courage, grit, and friendship. And along the way, she changes the world.
But before she was Lydia, the seller of purple, she was simply a merchant’s daughter who loved three things: her father, her ancestral home, and making dye. Then unbearable betrayal robs her of nearly everything.
With only her father’s secret formulas left, Lydia flees to Philippi and struggles to establish her business on her own. Determination and serendipitous acquaintances―along with her father’s precious dye―help her become one of the city’s preeminent merchants. But fear lingers in every shadow, until Lydia meets the apostle Paul and hears his message of hope, becoming his first European convert. Still, Lydia can’t outrun her secrets forever, and when past and present collide, she must either stand firm and trust in her fledgling faith or succumb to the fear that has ruled her life.
My Review
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 5 Smiles
I’ll start by saying my favorite book of Tessa’s is usually the one I’m currently reading. She captures my heart and imagination with each book she writes. Bread of Angels is a sequel to Land of Silence, but the connection is slight, so there’s no need to read Land of Silence first (though it’s a fabulous read as well).
I read Bread of Angels over four months ago, didn’t take any notes, and still the story lingers in my mind. Lydia’s love for her father still rings in my heart. This is a love story but not in the usual fashion. A searing betrayal creates a wounded heroine that is all the more lovable and noble. The friends she makes and the lives she touches are woven together to show an amazing journey that eventually links us to the Apostle Paul.
Here’s my “official” endorsement on the book. I don’t want to say more for fear I’ll ruin Tessa’s skillfully-woven plot!
Achingly tender from the first flutter of romance to the last sting of betrayal. Lydia’s story will now shout with deserved significance when I read of Paul’s journeys in the Book of Acts.
Definitely a MUST-READ for biblical fiction lovers!
