It’s another great read from my sweet friend, Connilyn Cossette! We’ve been friends a long time, and I’m still in awe of her writing skill and research acumen. And I LOVE the romance threads she adds to her novels that always make my heart swoon!
Shield of the Mighty (The King’s Men Bk #2) is one of my top picks of all her books. Another great read by one of my favorite authors!
Book Description
Captured by the Philistines as a young boy, Zevi has grown into a formidable warrior. As a captain in King Saul’s army, he is assigned a crucial mission: Recruit soldiers, gather tribute for the royal coffers, and find talented artisans for the king’s court. But when he is sent to Maresha, the town he was forced to leave as a child, he faces a startling truth–the elder council rejects King Saul and his campaign against their enemies.
Yochana, a widow and skilled woman of business, is captivated by a stranger who enters her perfume shop. Upon discovering he is not only a soldier but a captain responsible for enlisting young men to die in battle, fury and pain from her past loss resurfaces, threatening to consume her. But when Zevi’s actions in Maresha entangle Yochana in his radical scheme, they’re forced to confront present dangers and past scars.
Embark on a journey through ancient Israel with bestselling and award-winning author Connilyn Cossette in this exhilarating tale of vengeance, justice, and healing.
My Review
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 ++++++++ (4.8 Smiles)
I haven’t read all of Connilyn Cossette’s books but I’ve read most of them. Shield of the Mighty ranks very high among them. Stellar historical context. Heart-gripping romance. And a beautifully believable story. Cossette places her readers squarely in the center of King Saul’s early reign and the mounting dissension among Israel’s tribes.
Cossette gives a wink to faithful fans who have followed her since her debut by adeptly feathering in past characters with those in Shield of the Mighty, From her debut to this book, she’s taken readers from Israel’s Egyptian captivity through Exodus, Judges, and now into 1 Samuel. All through a single family’s fictional lineage.
That level of imagination and writing skill is truly remarkable.
Shield of the Mighty took me a few chapters to get into. It might have simply been my life circumstances, schedule, or bad pizza from the night before. I buy every Connilyn Cossette book for my ninety-four-year-old mama (she loves the romance!). I’m certain she’ll enjoy Yochana and Zevi’s story as much as the others! A must read for all Connilyn Cossette fans!
