Book Description:
Smith weaves a beautiful story of Abishag. It follows Abishag from her home and the freedom she has as a shepherdess, to the courts of King David as his nurse and wife, then as wife to Solomon. Much isn’t known of her life but Jill paints a vivid picture of who Abishag could have been and what her life was like as a wife to King David. (Thanks to my BFF team member, Regina Fugitani, for this informative review in the absence of an Amazon Book Description. Great job, gal!)
My Review:
😃😃😃😃😃 5 Smiles
This was a quick read—only a couple of hours. The amount of information and detail Jill includes in this novella is astounding. It offers a good chunk of David’s final days and Solomon’s early reign as well as a nice overview of the women in the palace during this time period. Really good character development in a short space.
This story was an especially fun read for me since it covered the same controversial story as my second book, Love’s Sacred Song. Both Jill and I make educated guesses at the identity of the Shulammite shepherdess from Solomon’s Song of Songs. Though we are meticulous researchers, facts and historical records from 10th century Israel are spotty at best.
Jill identified the shepherdess as Abishag, the same woman who was brought to the aged King David’s bed to warm his failing body in his final days. In my story, Abishag was a supporting character from the same small town as Solomon’s beloved Shulammite shepherdess. It was fascinating to see the way Jill wove together an entirely plausible story with the same historical facts I had used. That’s part of what I love about biblical fiction!
This is a beautifully-written eShort! I highly recommend it.
