What Are You Waiting For?

“They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”      Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)

calendarTruthfully, I’m tired of waiting. I’m weary, and I just want to sit in my chair.

I’m writing this post on Monday, August 4th. Here’s what’s happening in my life today. I have two days to finish my Pharaoh’s Daughter revision, and I don’t have a clue how to end the story. I also need to finish two blog posts, a newsletter (meaning two articles), and read a full book and review it–all before I leave for Colorado in three days.

Ain’t gonna happen.

Why Am I Going to Colorado?

We’re having another grand baby! Woot! Yep, our youngest daughter will deliver our sixth grand baby (C-section) on August 18th–or so we think. She delivered early with her first one. Our older daughter has been early with both her babies as well.

Our family isn’t partial to waiting.

Back to Writing…

Which leads me back to my unreachable deadlines…I didn’t wait til the last minute. Honest.

I’ve been working ahead on blog posts so I won’t have to work while I’m helping our daughter in Colorado. I did the same when I was in Atlanta in June with our eldest daughter and her newborn. Pharaoh’s Daughter revisions were scheduled for July–the whole month–before I left for Colorado in August.

See? I had a plan.

But it’s all about the margins. You know…those little spaces around the page of your book. The white spaces that let our eyes rest, so we don’t get overwhelmed when we look at a page. We need those same white spaces in our lives, on our calendars, for our brains.

MY plan didn’t include white spaces. I’m learning my plans seldom do. For years my planner wrote checks my body couldn’t cash, and the price was my health.

There is a big, brick wall, dear ones, and when we hit it–the damage is done. God can restore, but He may choose to allow the consequences of our choices to linger–as a reminder to make better choices next time.

Making Better Choices

So, here I sit on August 4th, wondering how much longer I have to wait.

  • When will I get the Epilogue AH-HAH! moment, and finish Pharaoh’s Daughter?
  • When will I meet my new grand baby?
  • When will I be obedient to the Lord and schedule white spaces into my life?

How about you? What are you waiting for?

“The Lord favors those who fear Him, those who wait for His lovingkindness.”      Psalm 147:11

Tweet-A-Licious:

  • Like margins in a book, we need similar space in our lives, on our calendars, for our brains.
  • God may choose to allow consequences to linger as a reminder to make better choices.

  1. I agree – we often take on more than we can accomplish. Why is that? For me, it may be the desire to be open – not to be too quick to say “No”. There are so many things worth doing: being a wife, a mother; a grandmother, a friend, a writer. And being a writer has a whole ‘nother set of “take-ons”, such as volunteering in a writing club such as ACFW or your local club, critiquing, reading craft books, researching, and just plain sitting down, BIC and staring at the screen. We need those white spaces.

  2. Right on Mesu! I spent the 4th of July weekend sleeping for 4 solid days & nights because I worked myself right into the Hospital ER twice. Yes! My schedule was too busy with not enough margins. Thanks for a needed devotional. God rested, and so do we need to.

  3. Thank you for that lovely reminder. I love the visual of having ‘white spaces’ in my brain…for sure there aren’t any there today, so I must work on that. Thanks for sharing this. SOO excited you got to be there when your new granddaughter came into the world. I know you have soooo much piled high on your ‘plate’ too…Praying for you often Sweet Friend. XO

  4. Mesu, thank you for this! I’ve been burning the candle at both ends too and it’s not getting me anywhere. I still have a ton of projects and I’m exhausted and hurting. White space is definitely in order. I used to schedule time off…now it’s hit and miss. Thanks for the reminder. Bless you fro sharing and enjoy that new grand-baby:)

  5. So glad y’all felt these words hit your hearts too. I’m trying to set aside work and worry while visiting worth my kids and grand babies. Trying to order my priorities and get a “white space” plan for when I return home. 😉
