Why Group Prequels From These 3 Books?

I wrote the Prophets and Kings series because they’re intrinsically tied by the Crimson Cord of God’s mercy. Isaiah’s Daughter and Isaiah’s Legacy explore some of the most-beloved prophetic texts in Scripture. But how are Isaiah, Micah, and the other prophets mentioned during the reigns of Ahaz, Hezekiah, Manasseh connected to Daniel in Of Fire and Lions and his ministry during the Babylonian exile?

The answer is found in God’s Word. Jeremiah clearly links the destruction of Jerusalem (and Judah’s exile to Babylon) to King Manasseh’s sin.

[God said to Jeremiah,] “If [the people] ask you, ‘Where shall we go?’ tell them, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Those destined for death, to death; those for the sword, to the sword; those for starvation, to starvation; those for captivity, to captivity.” I will send four kinds of destroyers against them,’ declares the Lord, ‘…I will make them abhorrent to all the kingdoms of the earth because of what Manasseh son of Hezekiah king of Judah did in Jerusalem.’” Jeremiah 15:2–4 (emphasis added)

Why Explore “Backstories”?

With the Prophets & Kings: Prequel Collection (my Amazon aff link–Kindle) release, you’ll explore key characters and their “backstories” from each of the aforementioned full-length novels. What’s a backstory and why is it helpful?

Backstory is the history of a character that helps a reader understand their motivation, emotions, and response to conflict on a deeper level. A villain wasn’t born a villain. He (or she) was once an innocent child who likely endured something traumatic. Knowing a villain’s backstory helps us know why he/she wounds others. Similarly, a heroic figure wasn’t born with strong moral fiber. They’ve learned from a mentor or perhaps responded differently than the villain to difficult circumstances. As you may have heard, “The same boiling water softens a carrot but hard boils an egg.”

Have You Read These Stories Before?

Some of you may have read these prequels when they were offered as a “freebie” to my newsletter subscribers when the full-length novels released. Why purchase the prequels now?

I’ve written a new introduction for the collection that explains the Crimson Thread uniting Isaiah’s Scriptures, King Manasseh’s evil reign, and Daniel’s life in captivity. And a new Author’s Notes at the end of each prequel offers lesser-known facts that may interest passionate biblical fiction fans.

I hope you enjoy this novella addition to my full-length novels! For more information, or to purchase your copy, check out the Prophets and Kings: Prequel Collection page on my website.
