Review: Nightfall In the Garden of Deep Time by Tracy Higley

Mesu AndrewsBook Reviews

Welcome, to my sweet friend, Tracy Higley!

Her deep love for Scripture, history, and all things Egypt made us kindred spirits immediately. Though she usually writes historical within a biblical context, Nightfall in the Garden of Deep Time is a book Tracy is very passionate about and one I’m so excited to share with y’all!

Here’s a quick video in which Tracy can explain her reasons for writing the book. Let me say after reading this masterpiece, I’m so grateful to my dear friend for the opportunity to review it and share. Honestly, if you’ve ever created a peanut butter sandwich, you NEED to read this book!

Book Description:

You’re invited…
To a timeless party in a Secret Garden.

Expect to come back transformed.

Kelsey Willoughby doesn’t have time to pursue her dream of writing a novel.

Imagination doesn’t pay the bills, and she’s busy saving her beautiful bookshop from online competition, hotel developers, and the sneaking suspicion that nobody reads anymore.

Not to mention all those voices telling her she doesn’t have talent.

But then the vacant lot of weeds next door starts to shimmer.

When Kelsey stumbles into a luminous nighttime garden party, larger than the vacant lot that holds it and filled with enigmatic guests, she suspects they hold the key to saving the bookshop, and perhaps even to her own mysterious origins.

But answers aren’t forthcoming, not until Kelsey is willing to confront her past, step into her potential, and push deeper into the unknown edges of the garden, where an unexpected journey takes her into a world of dangerous revelation.

My Review:

5 Smiles 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Anyone who breathes was made in the Creator’s image—to create in some way—and MUST read this book! Writers, singers, songwriters, artists—yes, of course, but also DIY’ers, Pinterest junkies, moms who add a little pizazz to kids’ lunchboxes, and dads whose deep voices add drama to bedtime stories.

Nightfall In the Garden of Deep Time provides the balm for every human soul, giving deep meaning and purpose to the act of creating while relieving the need to achieve accolades for the things we create. Higley digs deep into the questions of our deepest motives for creating, and the barriers that keep us from it—both externally and internally.

Every soul-searching question and ahh-hah moment is couched in believable, relatable prose about a woman too fraught with scattered life demands to focus on the truth that could bring her peace. Reality isn’t lollipops and puffy clouds, nor does this book hold all of life’s answers. However, several lines in this book drip with epiphany—like this one:

“I’m guessing there is always a gap between what the artist desires to create and the thing created.”

So whether we struggle with dashed creative expectation in parenting, teaching, writing, singing—or whatever life tasks you face each day—let Nightfall In the Garden of Deep Time soothe your soul with encouraging truths like this:

“If we can take the risks and then make peace with the results somehow, stop living tortured and disappointed, full of regret or even bitterness if we haven’t been hailed as geniuses. And still, always, create.”

Thank you, Tracy, for another work of art. I officially deem you a genius.
